Espresso Martini 200ml 25% ABV

£19.00

Made with Tia Maria and Kahlua, our very own superb Fat Adam’s Vodka, an artisan espresso coffee, this is a great cocktail IF you shake with PASSION! Both Tia Maria AND Kailua are used in my edition. Every serving contains a full shot of espresso.

Definitely shaken, not stirred. Lots of fun ingredients in this, the important thing here is to really give it the berries when shaking it, otherwise you’ll not aerate it and it’ll not be at its best.

The Espresso martini is a great cocktail, even if it isn’t really a martini, lacking either gin or vermouth.

It’s commonly known as a Vodka Espresso and, indeed, that is where I first came across it, in New York.

It was my first visit there, I’d gone to a swanky restaurant (Swanky is really the best word to describe it) and, being in my twenties, I thought, When in New York, have a New York Martini. I was with older, wiser friends and I didn't want to look too provincial.

So, channeling my inner James Bond, I ordered a Dry martini, shaken, not stirred, three part ice cold gin, 1 part vodka and come Kina Lillet.

Would you like a large sir, asked the waiter, probably laughing inside at my forced insouciance.

Of course!

Well. Along comes this cocktail. Huge glass. Trying to be cocky, I take a gulp and before I know it, I’ve knocked back the lot.

I barely remember dinner, the cocktail had floored me and it was definitely my very first hang under, but I do remember, my friend, patting me on the back and handing me a drink towards the end of the evening. I’d drunk nothing but water since that pre-dinner martini.

Try this, old chap, he said. It was cool, tangy, creamy, delicious and invigorating.

I’d just had my first Vodka Espresso, now universally known as the Espresso Martini.

It would not be my last!
